By 1865, Lyon & Healy had expanded into reed organs and some small instruments.
Healy, acting as the Chicago outlet for Boston sheet music publisher Oliver Ditson and Company. Lyon & Healy began in 1864 as a partnership of businessmen George W. It is made with a spruce wood top, and the neck, back and sides are mahogany (neck may be cedar, but I'm not certain). This guitar is the "Inspiration Model," so listed in Tonk Brothers catalogs from the early 30's. From several readings, I have learned that this is one of the great 12 fret, X braced Washburns. Made in Chicago in the late 1920's, or early 1930's. This rare find is in good condition, but does show some wear (please see pictures). Stunning and extremely rare guitar and fabulous finger picker.For sale is my Dad's old Vintage Washburn 5200 Lyons & Healy/Tonk Brothers Parlor Guitar 1920's, #6981. No other evidence of inside repairs what-so-ever. This guitar shows very nicely aged top which has some dings and scrapes but only ancient and stable hide glued hairlines on the lower bout. Topped off with a gorgeous set of “one off” Bob Colosi dyed bone bridge pins. Lyon & Healy “Makers” mark impressed with ink stamped inside. Lower Bout = 13″ Nut Width = 1 13/16″ and appears to be ivory. Built fro steel strings and currently strung with extra light phosphor bronze.
Sound hole bound with three sets of black/white rings. Truly magnificent engraved original tuners and Wasbhurn “smile bridge” with ivory saddle. Never touched, fully intact ladder bracing.Įlegant pearl inlaid extremely rare “sailor’s cap” headstock with “ears” only seen on 1926 models.
Flawless neck set and set up with comfortable 4-3 action.
